It is with great pride that we are able to announce that Perfect has been longlisted for the CILIP Greenaway Medal 2017.
Out of 90 nominated titles, Perfect is among 20 other titles on the CILIP Greenaway Medal Longlist.
The CILIP Greenaway Medal is marking its 60th year in 2017, with celebrations taking place which look back at the best of illustration for children.
Published in May 2016, Perfect tells the story of a boy struggling to accept his new-born sister when she turns out to be not what he expected. But when he helps a fledgling swift to fly he realises that all she needs is love and a little help; that she is, in fact, perfect.
Speaking about the nomination, Nicola Davies says “Thank you to Cathy Fisher, and to fate for letting us find each other by accident. And thank you to Graffeg for having the courage that others lacked and for supporting Cathy and I in the way we wanted to work.”
Cathy Fisher says “Thank you to Nicola for finding me, believing me and inspiring me with her beautiful, touching story, and thank you to Graffeg for your trust, support and brilliance.”
Peter Gill, Managing Director of Graffeg said, “This is a tremendous accolade for Graffeg, we are very grateful to Nicola for bringing Perfect to us, and to Cathy for the very sensitive illustrations in this book. It’s a great start for the launch of our children’s book list.”
Matthew Howard, publishing director of Graffeg, says “We are absolutely overjoyed that Perfect has been recognised by this great organisation – watch this space for what’s coming next.”
Perfect is written by Nicola Davies, a multi-award winning children’s author and zoologist. It is illustrator Cathy Fisher’s first published book. The duo have recently reunited for The Pond, a follow-up to Perfect which tells the story of a family dealing with the loss of a father. The Pond will be published in May 2017.
