While other boys’ heroes got muddy on sports fields, Julian’s were the two Davids, Attenborough and Bellamy. He was fascinated by Attenborough’s world travels, but it was the enthusiasm David Bellamy, the TV botanist, had for the close-to-home and every day that fired his imagination.
Julian spent days out exploring local woods and heaths. Thankfully, his seventies childhood was a free range one.
A news journalist by training, Julian now writes about wildlife, the countryside and environment; his work has been published in a wide range of publications including The Daily Telegraph, BBC Countryfile and BBC Wildlife. He is lucky enough to live in north Pembrokeshire and never finds himself short of inspiration.
Julian is the author of Wilder Wales, a year long exploration of the Welsh countryside alongside photographer Drew Buckley.
